Meanwhile, a white man could do that to a black man with total impunity. Of course a slap is playful - you're just gently reminding the uppity ****** of his place. If you didn't like him, or he was really out of line, you could just hang him, shoot him, burn him alive, drag him behind your truck with a rope, or you and half a dozen of your friends could beat him and stomp him 'til his head was like an overripe watermelon.
There's a long history there (hell, there was enough still going on in the south back when I was a kid growing up there, and both these boys are older than I am), and a context of humiliation and domination.

Ok, I did some research for any reaction from Al Green and the only thing I managed to find so far is this: "I called Green’s D.C. office this morning. Staffer Rosemary Manesis was completely unaware of any slap smack, but seemed to think the whole thing was pretty funny. We’ll have to check with Green when he gets back into town. All we’re sayin’ is that G-Dub better check himself. Al’s full of fire. – Steven Devadanam"

Original reporting and compelling writing on local news, restaurants, arts and culture have made the Houston Press a vital resource for readers who want to understand and engage with their community.

Colon, you're forgetting the fact that a BLACK man was involved. This means it was obviously a racist action, and anyone who disagrees with this, or even fails to mention it in their post, is also a racist. You heard me.

Bush could also have broken Green's jaw, apparently.

To be honest, I can't think of any reason why Bush shouldn't be executed for this offense. That photograph clearly shows that Bush's hand seems to be somewhere near the face of a fellow Texas politician. What more evidence do you need!

That makes sense. I did assume it was satire aimed at someone.

No no no, MtG, don't back down. They're racists, through and through. You can't deny the evidence. There is no other possible explanation for why Bush's hand would be in the area of Green's face. If this isn't proof that Bush secretly wants to own slaves, I don't know what is.

Bush's boots must have a real nice shine from all that latherin' you been puttin on 'em.

Since when does Green not bothering to say anything have any relevance to your boy acting like a jackass?

This is politics - Green wouldn't say anything unless he calculated some advantage.

I'm not backing down a bit. Maybe Bush has some deep, dark fantasies, and he was tryin' to plant one on ol' Al, and the camera clicked a fraction of a second too early, but do we really want to go there?

I don't think Bush is racist. I think he's a ****ing dumb, country club set silver coke-spooner overgrown fratboy and general embarassment to his dear old dad, who, given his talents and the state of his progeny, clearly had some real low-grade sperm cells. As a kid, Dubya no doubt had "affectionate relationships" with his househould coloreds, and the caddies, cooks, groundskeepers, and stewards at the country club.

And no, who wants to own 'em anymore, what with havin' to feed and clothe and whip 'em into shape, and then havin' to keep feedin' em when they get all old and useless? It's so much easier to manage your coloreds when you can just hire and fire 'em as convenient.
