Well, I would expect all of them to be on some massive painkillers, f.e. AFAIK, those are not illegal.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
I don't believe Floyd used doping, and I'm very disappointed in the way the media is reporting on this.
On the Dutch news in any case, they focus on how he did badly one day and then suddenly did very well again the next day and was caught that day. Insinuating that he "took a pill" the evening before to give himself a boost and win the Tour because of it.
I don't understand why everyone immediately thinks he's guilty when this is only one test results. A second still has to be done. And apart from that, the fact that they found unusual levels of testosterone and epitestosterone doesn't actually mean that he used doping. It's only a symptom that could be caused by him using doping, or by something else. He could have naturally higher levels, or perhaps it's because of the painkillers he was taking for his hip.
There isn't any type of doping that can have that much of an influence in that short of a time-span, and certainly not doping causing higher levels of testosterone.
And how come he only tested positive that one day? That would make it seem like he had a testosterone shot or something that day, which would actually do nothing to improve his riding that day. And that while he attacked and was sure to be tested.
That doesn't make any sense to me, unless it has natural causes, or someone else administered it without Floyd's knowledge.
Oh, and to everyone saying cycling is the most doped up sport. I'd like to remind you that cycling is by far the most tested sport as well. I can't see any reason why cyclists would be using doping more than other sportspeople, especially when knowing that they have a bigger chance of being tested than anyone.
In my experience professional cycling is not more or less dirty than most other professional sports. They're just a LOT -- and I really do mean a LOT -- more thorough in hunting it down and exposing it (a fact the media happily ignore because they love a good scandal from time to time). In most other sports the authorities are very lax by comparison and many athletes probably get away with a lot of stuff.
What puzzles me most about this whole affair is why so many cyclists still use doping so much, these days it's almost impossible to get away with it if you win anything...

Easy. The public (i.e. we) wants to see heroic battles. 3500 km on a bicycle, over the Alps and the Pyrrenees (sp?) and with a mean speed of over 40 km/h. In three weeks.
Nobody can do that on spaghetti alone. And since the commercial interests are enormous...
If I was a professional cycler I would use dope too.
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
Once again...

Having seen both stages on live tv I was wondering how on earth this guy could ride so much faster then anyone else after such a bad day.
I have followed the tour since the days of Hinault and Zoetemelk and never seen anything like it or it might have been Theunisse's big escape the year he came second after Delgado, if I recall correctly he was cought for exactly the same thing in that tour.

I've been an avid fan since I stood at the finish line way back in the 70's at the Ballon d'Alsace. Thevenet won the leg (years later it was found out that throughout his career he was using d... ), followed a couple of minutes later by Zoetemelk and some 15 minutes later by a large group led by Merckx in the yellow jersey. No it's not and no I (and most other cycling fans) don't wanna see that if it has to be done on meds. The absolute speed is utterly unimportant in cycling, if I wanna see high speed racing I'll watch F1. It's the competition between riders and teams that makes it exciting, whether they're going at 30 km/h or 50.
