  • Would the world be a better place if Germany had won WWI?

Think of it, no WW2, no Hitler means no death camps, a united front against emerging communism might have nipped it in the bud.

How would it have effected Japan? Would they still have invaded China, gone after Pearl? Would Imperial Germany, master of europe, have joined Japan in further expansionism or turned democratic, giving in to labor forces?

Would the west be in a stronger position to engage terrorism?

What am I not thinking of? How would this have changed history?

Because Germany was doomed by the entry of the U.S., I think Lancer's hypothetical necessarily implies that there's been no U.S. entry into the war.

It would have been better had Germany been decisively beaten with Allied troops in Berlin, or had neither side won then both would have seen the futility of it all there and then.

Germany felt cheated by their leaders, that was the problem.

I don't think there would be any change in Japan. They were on our side in WWI. They would have still invaded China because they were imperialist wannabes. We later clamped down an embargo on them because of their brutality towards the Chinese, and their attack on Pearl Harbor was their attempt at "de-fanging" the U.S. and thereby breaking the embargo. I don't see any of that changing.

The interesting thing would be in south African. After WWI, the Germans had to give up their colonies there to the Brits. If Germany had prevailed, logically the Brits would have been forced to turn over their southern African colonies to the Germans.

If Belgium was subsumed into a Greater German Kaiserreich, then all of African south of the equator (including the Belguim Congo) would have come under German control. That is: the diamond mines of the Congo and the gold mines of South Africa .

Would haves don't matter since outcomes are structurally determined [/commie]

Seriously though, there was no chance of it happening seeing the war goals. No chance of controlling peace (look at those areas to be occupied, all the old new enemies etc.) means another war = WWII. No?

I would have assumed it implied that the war started in the summer of 1905 instead of when it did.

A better question is, would the world have been better if Germany was never united and left as the little ickle states that everyone found so cutsie.

I disagree. I think Lancer's on to something.

If the U.S. stays neutral, and the Russians pull out of the war because of the Bolshevic Revolution, then the troops on the Eastern Front could be (and were) used in France. The French and the English -- with no reinforcements in site -- might have sued for peace.

That would have just lead to the situation in Red Alert if you changed history like that. Trying to provoke RoboCon into posting may not work.

In fact, it was Germany that send Lenin in a sealed train through its own territory from Switzerland to Russia.

So, a victorious Germany would have meant they wouldn't have resorted to this panicky act aimed at aquiring a separate peace with Russia.

Then Communism would have remained focussed on its original goal of revolution in industrialized countries, making the victorious Kaiserreich a main target itself.

With both Germany and Russia still monarchies Europe would certainly have taken a very different path.

As for terrorism: A victorious Germany would probably have meant an undefeated Ottoman Empire, thus no independent Middle East. Not to mention no implementation of the Belfour declaration and the creation of a Jewish homeland.

                            blech.

If we'd won we still wouldn't have been structurally superior to the US or a red Russia, so 1945=1945.
