    I need dvd softwear

    preferably free.

    I'm finally trying out my new pc-dvd player, but I don't have any software. The only free players I can find only give me a small window. What do I do?

        Wow they charge for that now. Oh well. I have a useless powerDVD cd lying around, that's why I mentioned it.

          I'd suggest using http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/WinDVD_Profile.jsp for 14 days, at least. It's pretty good, and free for 14 days

                    http://www.videolan.org/ isn't bad, and seems to play fullscreen quite nicely. Not overly simple to use, but at least reasonable.

                    Does Windows Media Player not play dvds? Or are you using one of those Linux type OSes? In which case you should use xine (@sourceforge).

                      Ah, that explains it. That might actually be sort of related to the DVD people, rather than Windows; iirc there's some sort of odd copyright on the DVD encoding system.

                            You could 'acquire' a copy of InterVideo's WinDVD and count it as me giving you my copy, since I don't use it :P (lappy has built-in DVD player functionality)

                              You gotta pay a licensing fee if you're going to decode MPEG2, which is what DVDs use.

                              Any free decoder isn't technically legal.
