I'd chose India. Hopefully I'd end up in some middle-class place in the Himalayan foothills rather than a Calcutta slum.
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

Yeah, the Nigerian I know is nice.. (she was in the physics class below me in Undergrad)... however, I still wouldn't choose Nigeria.

Nigeria and Ethiopia both can be politically explosive, and I wouldn't want to be killed by an angry mob or by a war.

For the rich and middle class, India has the best infrastructure.

If you ask me in which country I'd like to be an average citizen (and not a middle-class westerner), though, it's a tough call. A match between India and Nigeria IMO.

          1. India is undoubtedly the place with the most cultural facilities, etc available that a westerner would be interested in.

          2. Of all four, India is the most likely to make major advances in my lifetime

          3. Climate - well the OP didnt say you didnt get a choice of where to live - Id pick Bangalore

          4. In India theyd be more understanding of my dietary restrictions than in Ethiopia Id suspect (though Ethiopia has had a history of "Judaizing", i think that was pretty much suppressed. ) Of course both Bangla and Nigeria have substantial presences of extremist Islamists.

I once suggested Ban-galore as a substitute destination for Mingapulco.

I chose Nigeria, for reasons purely subconscious.

Be that as it may, I'd go for Ethiopia. The highlands would be perfectly liveable for a person used to a more temperate clime. Plus, at the very least, they're Christians, so a basic underlying philosphy would be the same.
                            Wait, your philosophy is Christian?

I was raised in a Christian society, so my core culture norms and values are Christian, even if I reject the religion. Islam and Hinduism are alien to me, and cultures built around them would be hard for me to feel comfortable in.
