The problem with Data was his make-up. It was gold, but no matter what they did, they couldn't get it to look right on TV. And once they had locked in, they couldn't change it. Data had sex, and only with women (making the phrase "fully functional" a major catch-phrase in my world).

The doctor on TNG was always a female -- first Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden), then Kate Pulaski (Diana Muldaur).

The doctor you're thinking of -- the computer program -- was on Star Trek: Voyager. played by Robert Picardo. He never appeared on TNG.
    From Wiki:
"The Doctor started his service on the USS Voyager as an Emergency Medical Hologram built into the starship's sickbays as a stop-gap measure for use if the ship's doctor should be temporarily unable to perform his duties (In point of fact, The Doctor is not a hologram in the truest sense of the word, but a volumetric display)."

You're 1-for-2 on even connecting your memories to the right program, Lancer. As a troll, not up to your standards.

I understand that Lucas modeled Darth Vader on Trotsky, and the Death Star on his armoured train. Palpatine is of course, Lenin.

Episode 1 killed off most of my interest in SW. E2 finished the job.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Tomorrow night I am going to see a one man theater show done by a man who performs the entire Star Wars series. It sounds dumb but it got rave reviews in several newspapers around the country and two thumbs up by NPR. The guy is in San Diego for four days because the San Diego ComicCon (the world's biggest collection of geeks and losers but which is never the less still fun) has brought huge numbers of people who will pay good money to see a one man recreation of Star Wars.

You may throw rocks at me now.

best thing you can do is actually to read all the books. you'll find that most of them are pure dog poop. and then it will be over.

some of the games can still be fun.

It is. still I managed to play both games and derive some enjoyment from them.

-Jrabbit, thanks for correcting my mistake.

Part of the problem I had with the NG and what came after was the problems they met too often seemed to have a corolation to earth problems and the solutions they came up with were too often touchy feely solutions that actually worked because they were written to work ignoring more realistic outcomes all too often.

The one thing I was impressed with, I think in NG, was after Pecard got all touchy feely about his Borg captive (forgive me if I forget bits of this show I watched years ago) and decided not to give the Borg a virus that would have killed them off, that he caught hell from his lady admiral.

He should have had his commition revoked and been court martialed and shot, but at least he caught hell.

                    Way too California touchy feely.

I have no idea how a self confessed Star Wars geek can resist the world's largest convention of geeks.

Comic-Con is dedicated to creating the general public’s awareness of and appreciation for comics and related popular art forms.

                        Lancer --
That was an unfortunate bit of scripting, I agree.

In general, NextGen made it a point to explore issues that were pertinent IRL at the time. Like all Star Wars vehicles, there was a degree of moralizing that was, at times, difficult to stomach. But the high points of the series far outweighed the low IMHO. But this discussion more properly belongs in the "best captain" thread.

We return you now to our regularly scheduled Star Wars geeks...

The original Star Wars Role Playing Game was great though the second ediion, not to mention the third, sucked.

                              Oh, and Che --

I am shocked and disappointed at your descent into this pawn-of-the-capitalists franchise. What will your little Commie friends think of you now?

Karl Marx wouldn't approve, that's for damn sure.

Anyway, we all know Che is all talk. He's only in communism for the chicks. He's money, cash, hoes.
