I was listening to some guy giving a lecture on US history and Iraq and the effects of guerrilla warfare on soldiers and he said when the French effort to keep Algeria ended in failure, de Gaulle gave the Algerians the names of 16,000 French soldiers stationed there and wouldn't bring them home. The reason being the kind of warfare they were engaged in produces severe psychological problems and returning soldiers are at much greater risk of causing problems.
Anyone know about this? I was stunned when the guy said it, if this is true de Gaulle betrayed his own troops.
