      Sir Ralph, they always seem to sweep like crazy, so they never push the thing hard enough? Or is it for all the dramatic sweeping? I mean those guys really sweep!

        You have to sweep crazy in order to create enough friction to get the mentioned film of water. Theoretically you could push harder and don't sweep, but it would be much harder to get exactly the right amount of energy into the stone, so that it doesn't stop too early, and does not slide too far. It's easier to push it a bit less and have the opportunity to do some corrections while the stone slides.

        Oh, and exclusively gays do curling.
