  • Iran ready to compromise

    Israel

Breaking News: Iran has accepted the international paper as a fitting basis for new talks. Iranian spokesperson Mr Asefi stated that extremism and threats are wrong steps.

    German news source: http://www.spiegel.de/politik/auslan...426943,00.html

This only days after Israel has attacked Iran's proxy positions in Lebanon.

With Iran accepting our paper as a basis for talks, we might be heading for an agreement (whatever that will look like). Or is it just new bull****?

I was going to post a rough translation but whatever I had typed got lost due to some mal-clicking around my opera windows. No idea what happened, but you'll figure it out as soon as there's a news item on some real web site

They are posturing. They want to appear the victims because it plays well to their people. Israel is giving them what they can't take, a stand up fight. They would rather send their youth onto busses with bombs stapped on.

This can also be taken as a sign of weakness. Israel should kick the crap out of them and then offer terms from the back of a tank with Tehran in its sights...

I think Israel is doing a good job on us. Iran's position is weakening with Lebanon and Syria in the crossfade of Israel and the US. In the meantime however, other German news sources come up with analyses that don't see an end to the nuclear conflict with Iran for years.

The latest changes in the Middle East, did they affect the Iran talks or not? Maybe this topic should be merged with the Middle East thread after all.

Given Iran's tactics of accepting things and then still to it the other way in the past I'm sceptical, but let's see.....

The USA, Nato, UN and EU are busy with Iraq, North Korea and Afghanistan etc
Being members of the United Nations Security Council, Russia and China are not willing to give the USA / Nato plenty of rope. But any military measures without the world's support would be disastrous.
There is relatively modest risk of being attacked at this moment.

Ahmadinejad has a lot of influence in the islamic world whether he carries out his felonious agitation or not.
He has some power to make other conflicts in the Middle East get worse when he gets harmed.

Iran's nuclear program may potentially result in an atomic bomb.
As long as we are scared we are willing to make a lot of allowances.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is playing poker and he can demand for a lot. He is just in an advantageous situation.
It will be interesting to see what it wil be that makes him satisfied.

How many times in the past year have we been led down the primrose lane on this subject by Iran. Tomorrow they may repudiate everything they've just said. That would be consistent with their track record.

I dont think being able to make an atomic bomb is that difficult, Japan has none, but I remember one anti chinese japanese politician bragging that they could make dozens overnight, and in latin america both brazil and argentina can, altough they have signed that they wont make, south africa also can, so why should Iran need 50 years???, I would expect them to have a nuke within a decade.

No, the situation in Lebanon aned Israel's actions are not what wil lead to Iran talking about its nuclear program. I think the fact that China and Russia have stated that they themselves are impatient with the process is what matters. The Iranians have been given a set of nice incentives-that put the onus on them to show that their nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes as they claim. The fact they have continued to refuse to talk about it has weakened Russia and China's resolve not to start down a path they think could lead to military action vs. Iran.

So, no, Israel isn't doing anyone (even itself) any good. Thank Hu and Putin if you want to thank anyone, IF this report is accurate.

Making a bomb isn't that hard . . . if you have the right fissible material. That is the extremely hard part, and why so few countries have managed to make bombs despite the plans being widely available. Material for use in a bomb needs to be many, many times more refined than what you need to use in a reactor. Iran simply doesn't have the necessary equipment to make a bomb in a relatively short time. It requires ten thousand centrifuges to refine uranium to the point that you can make a workable bomb. They have 180. You do the math.
