Do you really think you can average 70 MPH exiting and entering major cities, and probably passing through two more (Indianapolis and Chicago)?

Edit: Not to mention stops for food/gas/whatever. I'd say you'd actually be very lucky to cover those 700 miles in 12 hours.

Looks like the shortest route would take you through Indy too.

I factored in 42 minutes for food and gas stops.

I think average speed drops if you are driving with a one year old. I believe there is diaper stops, more rest stops... Parents, help me out here!

it takes longer to travel with an infant... yet, I don't see how this would effect the speeds at which I enter a city any more than not entering a city.

My average driving speed before Josie: 70-75mph
My average driving speed after Josie: 60-65mph

Driving through major cities, especially Chicago, generally means you can't go quite as fast. It has nothing to do with the infant.

I don't know Chicago, but you can zip through Indy pretty quick if you stay on the interstates.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Car gets about $25 miles/gallon, assuming an average price of gas is $3.25

Josie can ride on our laps for free on the plane. There are direct flights for $750-$800 for the pair and it's about a 4 hour flight.

If we drove we'd stop in Chicago, rooms run about what? $100/night.

I'm just wondering if 24 hours in a car with a 1 year old is worth any cost savings.
180.00 in gas, plus 100.00 in hotel. Some food another 100.00 or a little more. So we are looking at 380.00 plus a little more. If you have never driven, try it, it may not be that bad.

In 2003 we drove from Napa, Ca. to Suwanne Ga. We went from Napa to Bakersfield, Ca., then on to Las Vegas, then on to the Grand Canyon, next to Albuquerque, NM., then on to Oklahome City. That was our biggest part and it took us about 10.5 hrs and a little over 543 miles. We stoped for gas, bathroom and lunch only. from Ok to Salem, Mo. Then from Salem to Memphis. From Memphis to Nashville. Then we drove to Suwanee Ga. It is on I-85 some 30 miles north of Atl.
