  • The vacation thread.

After reading the thread about where everyone has travelled in the world I have began thinking about my next vacation. I'm currently sitting on free domestic frequent flier tickets for both Southwest and Alaska airlines plus I've got something like 65,000 Hilton HHonors points (good for 2-3 nights free stays depending upon location) and I just got some special deal from AMEX Gold which gives me 50,000 points good for AMEX's travel service (that's good for a free coach class to Europe, Asia, or Latin America). The question is what do I do with these free tickets/hotel rentals?

I'm looking for vacation ideas so what are some vacations you've taken in the past which you just loved and what are some vacations you plan on taking in the future?

Wifey and I went to the Mayan Riveria a few years ago and had a blast. Not sure how they are doing now, since the hurricane, but it sure was nice in the Akumal area and we will be going back.

Hawaii is also nice; Kapalua, Maui or Princeville, Kauai.

The US and British Virgin Isles.

Most of my "vacations" have been more for visiting family and friends. Though we do so in some really nice areas.

If you want something not beachy I would suggest Sun Valley, Idaho (go have dinner where Hemingway shot himself) or Park City, Utah (go during the Sundance Film Festivle) are good hideouts. My parents went to the Bugaboos and had a great time as well.

If you also have lots of cash ready then there is only one place to go. Reykjavik.
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
        Once again...

I've got about twenty days of vacation saved up, so I'm driving to Oregon/Montana/Utah/Idaho in August to go backpacking.

Well, New Zealand is great but you need a lot of time & money to do that right, 'cause it's so far away.

Been to Yellowstone, Oerdin? I've been pondering putting together a trip out there next year.

Explain. It's on my "to do" list, but kinda far down along with the Canary Islands.

Right now, this list is topped with Florence Italy and Florence Oregon.
