    Tennis

    equal pay for equal work

As for the 3-sets vs. 5-sets thing... huh, I hadn't thought about that before.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

If you watch the Williams sisters, you get tennis AND a horse show. Two events for the price of one!

There was a time when men's tennis was almost unwatchable at Wimbledon, because the courts were too quick, the serves too deadly, and the points too short. The women's game was better to watch under these conditions as there was actually some rallying.

OTOH, on slow courts like clay before the Williams era of power changed the women's game, the women's matches were too slow and plodding.

These days, the Wimbledon courts are slower and good for rallying, and the women really whack the ball hard now, raising the overall entertainment of both games, imo.

I completely understand men who only watch women's tennis because they want to admire the beautiful bodies in their nice little outfits etc, but for anyone who has tried to seriously play this difficult game, it's not possible to watch Federer at his best without being awestruck by his qualities. The guy is pure genius.

What made the courts quicker back then?

While they're nice to look at, I can get better elsewhere; I watch tennis for the sport. That said, women who play tennis have beautifully sculpted legs that are hard to find elsewhere.

                    I concur.

Anyway, I watch for the sport, but I certainly can enjoy the women's matches for other reasons.

By the way, I too am starting to get irritated with Sharapova's grunting (not to mention the Hewitt-esq "come on!").

                      GO BAGHDATIS!!

Holy crap, Baghdatis is up 4-0 in the first set! Excellent.

Different kind of grass? More grippy these days, I guess - or the soil preparation. There's a whole industry supplying customised grasses to sports venues.

There surely are no better legs anywhere than on women tennis players. Sculpted is the word, OK.
