I can verify Oerdin's story, though some of the details are wrong. The KGB identified the leaders of the group that kidnapped their men, then kidnapped the brother of one of the those men. The KGB then, cut off his ear and sent it to his family. They threatened to cut off more parts (one every day or so) until he was dead. Then, they would kidnap other family members. The Russian guys were released shortly thereafter.

I like that sort of diplomacy
Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.

Well, at the very worst, you can say the KGB were stooping to the *******s level ( and even that is a stretch)

Considering it is the KGB I'm thinking they didn't have to stoop very far.

But remember, in Soviet Russia, hostages destroy you.

I don't have an opinion about this statement though. On the other hand I think it is appropriate. You know, kill our diplomats and this is how we respond.

On the other hand it sounds kind of a thug thing to say.

                      But I'm undecided.

I agree, unless my brother starts taking Russian hostages. I like my ears, they really go well with my head.

But I get your point. People don't mess with Russia twice.

Probably send some investigators doing nothing as a cover while reactivating old networks undercover to do the real business.

Nah, since Russia has become a "democracy" it no longer can use the pretty effective methods it could use when it was a socialistic empire.

Well, fool me twice, and we kill you all. Isn't Chechnya rather peacefull today, after everyone willing to oppose the russians is basically dead? So I heard.
