      • the thing I don't get is if you're going to pick an old and immobile QB, why not Brunnel over Bledsoe? Brunnel has more targets in Moss, Randle El, the guy from San Fran, Cooley, Portis, etc. than does Bledsoe who'll likely be on his back more than a prostitute.

Or Brad Johnson for that matter might be a better pick... or Jon Kitna... The prescence of Terrel Owens isn't going to suddenly make Bledsoe an MVP candidate.

          • Immobile QBs need a ton of attempts on a high-scoring team to be worthwhile.

The guy from SF is former Illinois star Brandon Lloyd btw.

While a great example of "immobile," Brad Johnson is a poor example of a good pick. Doesn't throw deep, new coach, no star WR.

There are LOTS of QBs still available that are aguably better than Bledsoe. But the mobile QBs all have question marks this year, so it really comes down to: who do you like?

My take on Tiki -- He's a clear top-5 pick, but every FF analysis I've seen lists LT, Shaun, and Johnson ahead of him. So you should expect a little abuse from your peers. Personally, I admire your chutzpah in making a solid but unconventional choice.

            FWIW IMHO YMMV BOCTAOE ETC...

Yup, its easy getting trapped into taking what "the experts" tell us and forgetting this is supposed to be fun too and most of us have favorite players and teams. In my mind, Johnson will blow away the TD record this year and top 2000, assuming Priest doesn't cut into his load too much. And he plays less than a 100 miles away. Too bad I didn't get him in either league... When I saw Speer took Tiki my chances increased but Zopper nabbed him.

And Japher, are you paying attention? You were 1 pick away from your turn and you disappear all night without leaving 2 names with someone?

                  • I don't see LJ at 2000. It's possible, but more likely than not he tops out at about 1800 or so.

Nobody can handle over 400 carries, and few backs handle over 370 well. This is beginning to become common knowledge, and I doubt Edwards will risk running the next superstar into the ground. So say he gets 350 carries. He has to get into that mythical 5.7+ yards a carry zone. Barry Sanders could do that. OJ Simpson could do that. Let's not put a guy who hasn't ever started a full season in the same category as those guys. The thing is that LJ got so many carries over the end stretch that he actually made up for lost time earlier in the season. He basically got a full workload last year.

Throwing in my predictions: he leads the league in rushing this year at 1800 yards, and posts a yards from scrimmage total over 2000. Shaun recedes to a total of "just" 1400 yards, with Maurice Morris seeing an increased workload. Tomlinson gets a larger workload once again, struggles to post a good average per carry, and ends with 1350 on the ground, but a whole lot of receptions from acting as Rivers' safety blanket. That's how I see it. But the odds are probably pretty good that one gets a big injury.

Even the formerly reliable guys are injury risks. Nobody's invincible, not even Curtis Martin.

He almost made 1800 starting the season as back up... He averaged 160 his last 4 games, that projects to 2560 yds. Over the last half of the season, he went for 1244.

Since the KC defense gives up points and yards, KC wont have many blow outs where they can sit him. And once he gets close, the pressure to let him go for the record will be immense. He needs to average 125 a game to hit 2000, he'll do it. The guy is an amazing runner, a near perfect blend of strength and speed and KC will be even more run oriented... The only downside is he plays some tough run defenses to end the season and his 5+ avg/rush will drop closer to 4. Wont matter, he'll be over 1500 by the time Baltimore is up.

                        • I agree with Jaguar... we are putting the cart before the horse with Larry Johnson. He won't break the rushing record and probably won't hit 2000 yards next season. Though he may get the TD record.

Lets see how Johnson adapts to every team intently studying film on him this go around. He benefited from the uncertainty. He'll be good, but people predicting he'll be the "best all time" in his first full season are getting waaaaaaay ahead of themselves.

Over his last four games, he was given the ball 115 times. Project that out to 16 games, and you have him getting the ball 460 times, or about ninety times more than Emmit Smith got the ball in his prime.

                            • Here are the all time top rushing seasons number of attempts. See Jamal Anderson and Terrell Davis at the top? What happened to them the year after? How about Eddie George? Half of the guys up there got career threatening injuries the year after.

Second, notice that even Jamal Anderson had only 410 at most.

And you're predicting LJ's yards/carry will go back down to the 4.5 range, but for him to still break 2000?

Then you'd better be prepared for the Chiefs to give the ball to LJ 450 times, more than any running back has ever gotten the ball in a season.
