Whereas he wasn't worthy of being a leadoff hitter with a poor OBP, he's gotten it up to .361 (not that great for a leadoff hitter, but from where it was is incredible). He's got his average up to .302 and SLG to .495! 34 steals as well with 8 caught stealing, which gives him a marginal benefit to runs.

And he's just hitting the logo off the ball at the moment. It just makes the Mets lineup even more scary.
Yeah, Reyes is doing quite well. Hey, like lots of people said... he's young and had all sortsa tools. Though batting him leadoff when his OBP sucked was IMO moronic, sticking with him through the rough patches (as opposed to sending him down or trading him) was smart. And now, presuming he keeps his OBP north of .350, you've got an excellent leadoff man.

Just imagine if they'd kept Kazmir!

You don't bring that up again and I won't bring up letting Fred McGriff go for peanuts.

Oh, and I think the logic of keeping Reyes in the leadoff spot was that the offense was so good behind him that it really didn't matter so much. After all, lineup changes don't matter as much as we think they do. They do have an effect, since the leadoff man gets the most at bats, but over a season it may only be an average of 10-20 runs lost, which is about 1-2 wins.

Pfft. Fred McGriff means nothing to me. You forget, my baseball fandom is rather recent. To me, Fred McGriff is a has-been playing for the Devil Rays. But anyway, I didn't say that to needle you. It was genuine wonder. The Mets farm has produced some really good (and FUN, for that matter) players of late.

I recognize the new CV on batting order (it just doesn't matter that much), but still, putting one of the lowest OBPs on the team at #1 was silly. Anyway, if he keeps this up, it's just not an issue anymore.

          Phillies avoid the sweep yesterday!

          It'll happen today instead.

Nothing like starting the weekend with your best pitcher smashing his wife in the face. And then he has the nerve to say he's just sorry it was so public. Yeah - keep your wife beating in the closet and then it's ok.

The quotes they had on "this week in quotes" over at BP were ugly. Multiple eyewitnesses saying he was dragging his wife by the hair and slapping her across the face while she screamed "I won't let you treat me like this anymore."

            What a guy.

                    "anymore." What a bastard.

His reaction and the Phillies organization's reaction is just making me sick.

Way to turn off the fans!

before Myers' start the other day, an update guy on sports radio here in Chicago goes, "and Myers will make the start tonight, let's see if he can beat some men..."

To us, it is the BEAST.

I don't think so... in order to be a *** in Ozzieworld, you need to believe that Ozzie handled the Chad Tracy situation the wrong way and that Dusty Baker should be fired.

                                meh

I don't really care either way. Tracy was going to be sent down regardless of whether he plunked any batters in that game. I think it was a good idea to have Tracy try and hit a guy instead of having Vasquez do it (so you don't lose Vasquez via suspension). A part of me thinks you should hit a guy in retaliation when one of your guys gets hit, but then another part of me thinks, "why put an extra guy on base?"

I thought that whole situation was just stupid... and then the drama afterwards was just ridiculous.

Sports radio here in Chicago was going nuts talking about it for over a week after it happened... meanwhile, the Sox kept winning games, but nobody noticed.

I do think Baker should be fired though.

                                I suppose I only meet 1 of the 2 *** requirements.
