I don't have the time and patience to read more than the first page of this long thread, but what about the alternative: He finally got a real life...

        Or he finally hit it...

Both alternatives, or the combination of them, beat Apolyton 8 days a week. So what's the fuzz? He will be back when it slows down again. Just like me. Life goes up and down. Apolyton OT is always there if you need it. But if you have a real life, you mostly don't.

Ted is still one of the brightest young people in here, he is close to the center, I wouldn't say he is right or left wing at all. I would say he takes an issue at a time and looks at it through his own glasses and then takes a stand or abandons the whole issues as something that is not worthy of taking a stand for.

That's exactly the way I like to operate and thus I kind of selfishly appreciate that in others as well. TO me it shows a pragmatic approach with a little bit human in you still and it's not always easy really, and you keep catching yourself trying to lie to yourself all the time, to justify positions, so you are actually going through inner arguing all the time. So that's why you would not take every issue as an issue of importance.

I see Ted was good at that, exceptional. So I really hope he comes back. And not only that, he was a good dude for real so I really hope the reason for his abstinence is hitting some chicas or something and not being offended or stupid stuff like that.

Come back you fool! DONT GET IT TWISTED!
What Pekka says above is the reason why I have Ted and Pekka (and almost no one else) on my Apolyton buddy list. My own thoughts exactly.

              Yes, I think that works.
              Or maybe probability.

It is not probable for the passport to survive.

It's not probable for any one peice of paper to survive.

Add up the probabilities with thousands of bit and pieces from inside the planes and you might reach a probability that something would survive.

And the probability of a small notebook of thicker-than-normal paper sewn into a tough, non-paper binder -- which is essentially what a passport is -- is that much greater.

Little known fact: The Saudis make their passports out of titanium.

I agree that it is possible for the passport to have survived, but it still seems improbable. Maybe they should make black boxes out of the stuff they use to make passports ...

Or as the old joke goes, why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?

It restricts the colours they can paint the plane with afterwards.

Black boxes are meant to have a good chance of surviving a normal crash, so they're fairly large, and exceptionally armored - just the kind of thing that wouldn't be too likely to survive a deliberate, high speed impact with a steel frame and concrete building, and that building's subsequent collapse.
