Have you seen this movie? If so what did you thought about it?
I thought it was a very very sad movie. But it gave an interesting insight to what it may have been like in the Bunker during the last days. Hitler is obviously losing his mind and the minions keep on believing in him like they try to hold on to the massive lies and prop that their lives were. In the End its as its all coming down some people cant live without the national socialism and take their lives.
I mean as a 21st century European brought up in individualistic and often bourgeoise enviroment it all seems so distant, so...insane. At the same time you have to admire that some people were dying for a cause. theres always something beautiful in that. I hate yo admit that but whahs the difference with the mujahedeens of our time.
Abandoning that road right there. What bad did the Nazis represent? Other than killing millions and millions of jews, romas, homosexuals and mentally deranged. If they had not done all that insanity what would have they accomplished? They may have beaten the USSR for one. Liberating not only the Russians from the bastards that dared to call themselves communists but also bringing freedom to the Baltic peoples, the Ukranians, the Finno-Ugrics, the Kazachs and all the people that had been oppressed centuries by the Imperial Russia. They would have made this continent the dominant force it deserves to be. They had the technique, they had the discipline, they had the organisational abilities. What did they lack? Individualism? Respect for being different? Or perhaps the right timing?
Its a lot of what ifs but after seeing the film Untergang its all more clear that we as Europeans are still in the healing period after the 2 total wars. Until 15 years ago it was ever present in our lives, now its memory is fading but it hasent been that long. Its been what 60 years....
My family still has canned food in our summer cabin that proudly says 'Made in West Germany' in them. Was I too young or was the moment for remembering and learning never held? Did we move on too fast just waiting for all the survivers to die? Shouldnt we process this War without the constaraints of who win or lose? Is ther e anything we could learn from the nazis? Didnt they infact molise their nation to give their 150% When others were giving their 100? Didnt hey show us what the humankind is capable of when accelerated? In best and worse.
Maybe the Germans themselves have pondered these things all too much. Maybe thats why they are pacifists today. Maybe thats why we who were most touched by the total war see the later adventures by the USA as so recless and wrong. Maybe thats why we hate the US government....
