It's a free country Sloww. You're free to believe they're wrong and the Baptists are free to educate their kids as they choose...so are you btw. Stop them from educating their kids in their own manner and if the school system starts teaching a doctrine you consider pernitious to your kids...

There's nothing stopping fundies from deprogramming their young'uns after a day of learning about homosexuality and Darwinism at public schools. Similarly, I read of a man in Canada who opted to send his kid to Catholic school because, in general, the curriculum and teaching pace (much faster than the public school) was better for the child; he just has to try to negate the Catholic lessons at day's end because he doesn't believe in them. So, no matter what the kid is exposed to during the day, the parents can mitigate those influences at home after school. So "forcing" kids to learn about natural selection, et al, doesn't necessarily mean it'll stick.

I say let them leave. If fundie migration means less pressure on public schools to adhere to Scripture, great. The ignorance of a small percentage of kids is a small price to pay.

I beg to differ. My school was infinitely better than most schools around it public or private. We crushed the private schools in academic competitions regularly.

My brief time in a Catholic high school had a religion class, but it was a world religion class. We learned about other religions as to what the believed and why in a historical context. It was very balanced. In fact, we learned very little about Catholic teachings at all. I guess, it was expected that we all knew it from Sunday school.

No... I think it's because back in those days I believed in stuff like Santa and God. My grandparents tried to instill a belief in God in me, and to a large extent they were successful when I was little.

My catholic school had a morality class. We were in 3rd grade so it dealt with things like not littering and other non-controversial issues. Quite frankly I saw it as a largely positive thing.

After Catholics, Baptists in total are probably the single biggest religious concept. Were there no split, it might even rival Catholics.
