Modern Judaism is little closer to the Yahwism of the author of the Garden of Eden story than is modern Christianity. If you want me to think the serpent was originally conceived as a manifestation of Satan, you'll have to find support for it in the Torah (which, far a I'm aware, doesn't mention Satan at all).
