I really don't have the time to go back through all the history of those threads. I don't have enough knowledge of soccer to contribute in a meaningful way to the thread. And I don't have the time on-line to keep up with everything about world soccer.
I'm not going to waste your time and mine trying to contribute to such a topic. I'll follow along where I can, but why ruffle the waters over there?
And that's without even considering the fact that ... it's a "football" thread. When was the last time you discussed Gaelic football, AFL or rugby in that thread?
So here's a simple little place for people of any sporting background (or none at all) to pass the time and discuss World Cups past and present.
... oh, and don't forget to slag off the Dutchies.I don't know what I am - Pekka

I would've posted a link earlier to the World Cup home page, but everytime I try it, my browser hangs and I have to reboot the whole machine. After the first three reboots, I decided not to offend the sensibilities of our delicate 'polytubbies.

Life as a West Virginia hockey cultist was tough. Think you have a hard time because your cable provider doesn't carry OLN? Try being a hockey fan during the SportsChannel era. The only game broadcast on ESPN, the Mountain State's lone cable sports network, was the NCAA Finals. I memorized Harvard's 1989 championship victory over Minnesota—the late Tom Mees calling the action, future NHLer Tom Chorske ringing the post on a breakaway, Harvard's Ed Krayer scoring in overtime—because I taped it and watched it repeatedly to get my hockey fix.
And that's the way it should be. Residents of Omaha, Neb., don't have the inalienable right to watch Australian rules football, and a guy in West Virginia—or Raleigh, N.C., for that matter—shouldn't be able to flip on the tube and watch hockey any ol' time he pleases.I don't know what I am - Pekka

I have no idea, to be honest. No one really pays attention to it here as it occurs during playoffs when the best hockey players are still playing in the NHL.
Canada cares about the NHL, the WHL, the CHL, and some people care about the ECHL.
Internationally, we care about the Olympics hockey (Quinn can rot in hell), the World Cup of Hockey, and the World Juniors. The IIHF Championship is a joke -- it's like having a mentally retarded chess tournament."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

This is the sort of post which is considered entirely appropriate. Feel free to post more stuff like this.
