  • Civilization 4 Mentioned on the Colbert Report

Just thought it was worth a 'poly thread, since many of us love both Colbert and Civ.

The video will probably be viewable for free on the Colbert Report site at comedycentral.com pretty soon.

The guest actually had interesting stuff to say, too. He was discussing videogames, whether kids today really are as dumb as people say they are, and other stuff we talk about a lot.

Here's the book he was pitching:

Edit: the video is now viewable here. Navigate around and such, you can do it.

      Steven Johnson

I haven't read his book yet, but I've heard a lot about it. Big from me.

It'll also replay starting in 20 minutes, which is good because I missed it tonight.

How many 12 year olds are on these or any Civ board?

I was twelve and on a civ board once . I know of at least a dozen people who are or were once 12-13 and posters on Poly or CFC. And posters here are a small minority of Civ players. OTOH, I think Civ is one of the games with the highest mean player age, and his examination of popular games may not have reflected that.

I remember playing Civ 1, but i was born in 85, so I'm guessing I didn't play it upon release. Civ 2, though, my brothers and I picked up as soon as we could.

I was playing Civ1 in 1993 at the age of five. My sister was 10, and we learned the game together.

So there are young civ players, and there are old ones as well. But I think, say, World of Warcraft or Halo has far younger players than Civ on average.
