This is why Emmitt is superior to Barry

Barry never got the chance to play hurt (because no one could touch him...).

              wooooop!

Barry Sanders was frickin' amazing. I'd take him, without a doubt. He made moves that made your jaw drop.

As a Lions fan I definitely choose Barry.

I don't think most Detroit fans blame Barry for leaving. Certainly we were mad about it, but we knew we didn't have anything else on the team besides Barry (and two good receivers).

I actually think Barry ultimately made an honorable move. Everyone expected him to ditch the Lions and sign up with some team that actually had a shot at getting a ring. But he started as a Lion and finished as a Lion. Finished too early of course, but he didn't just turn mercenary for a trophy. Gotta respect that.

Plus Emmit moving to the Cardinals I wouldn't necessarily say was because he loved the game so much. Surely that was part of it, but he wanted to break some records and wouldn't get the same kind of playing time on a good team.

Put Emmitt Smith on those Detroit teams, he's a mediocre back.

Put Barry on those Dallas teams... he could've gotten 2,000 yards... more than once.

Emiitt is more consistant. Not as fun and flashy to watch, but we're trying to win games here. Though you can argue his good offensive lines were the reason he did so well. His success in Arizona was limited.

If you are using the teams' success as a basis for your comparison, you are making a terrible mistake. Look at the level of talent on the teams. Barry had next to nothing around him for a lot of years... and that includes Detroit's defense for many years.

We are talking pure skill here... not the success of the teams.

Only more consistant in that he played longer. Barry had 10 straight seasons of at least 1,300 yards.

Emmitt just got the ball more and played behind one of the best offensive lines in history.

Barry was da man. Aside from making plays out of nothing on a consistent basis his reason for leaving the game was not because he was fed up with the pathetic Lions but because he had a deep respect and loyalty to 'sweetness'.

I like Emmitt Smith. A lot. Hard nosed, tough, dependable, terrific player.

But I'd take Barry so fast that you'd miss it if you blinked.
