I lke both emmit played hard and tough was a great player never get a lot fo credit for making plays which he did all say he had the line to make which of course he did but barry was a hell of a player as well. i think personnaly they are almost equal in terms of playing abilities.
and for the record emmit retired a cowboy not a cardinal

He heart dies as well.
What your describing is what happened to another great running back, unfortunately, his team loved Football so much they just loved losing super bowls more, eh Marv?

Or even the great Marus Allen who had some nice years as well, just ask Al "dictator" Davis

Both of the players were good barry had a way to make the moves but so did emmit.... and it was usually the MOOSE blocking for him (emmit) when he ran tyvm. Barry was an extrordianary player he was better then emmit in some ways, and sucked in others, i never saw barry block like emmit did,
but all in all i think they would have kicked ass on the same team

Barry Sanders hands down. Good teams have a huge effect on a back's numbers. They have better offensive lines, tend to be ahead more often (which means run, run, run rather than pass, pass, pass), have better defenses (which means more touches on offense) etc. Given all of that Sanders still outran Smith by a decent margin.
              He's got the Midas touch.
But he touched it too much!

The drunk comment was refering to you saying they "are almost equal in terms of playing abilities". I'm glad you bring up Moose Johnston. Emmit had not only one of the best offensive lines blocking for him, but also had a HoF Full back leading the way. Barry, on the other hand, ran in a single back set and almost never had a blocker.

OTOH, your point about Emmitt being a good blocker on passing downs is a valid point. Emmitt was a blocking back almost on par with Walter.

I'm amused this is debateable. Granted, I'm not really a football fan, but come on!

Yes, Emmitt was your classic "powerful" back... He was durable... Could make his own hole... Block (boy could he hit people)... and had some speed and moves. Very much like Walter.

Barry on the other hand was explosive. He had far more speed, and far more moves. He was scarey once he got into the open field.

And he seemed to have a knack for finding that open field, didn't he?

Agreed... especially impressive since he mostly played for terrible teams. I remember one Thanksgiving Day game in particular where he just destroyed the Bears in the Second half... it was frightning.
