    Is it possible to download older windows versions? Are they considered freeware? I'd like to put windows 3.1 on this comp when I get a new one so I can play 'Conquest of the New World' again.

      Yes. No. You can, but it's a pain in the ass and you would probably be better off finding a more recent game like yours or an emulator or way to fix whatever its problem with WinXP is.

      Even that was as of several years ago. I have no idea if Windows 3.1 could run on modern hardware "out of the box" or with fixes.

        IIRC Civ 1 was distributed a year or two back on a disc with a gaming mag.

          Come to think of it, CivI could do well ported to run on cell phones or handheld computers.
