Have you seriously ever seen anyone use that?

Wordpad does lack some basic functionality, though. It won't show you pages in print layout form for editing, it can't insert tables (huge one), doesn't have a line spacing option, I think, and of course it doesn't open .doc files, which most people need to.

Finally got the email. Pretty. It's missing some basic stuff that I like, though, like cell formatting. All I use Excel right now for is my checkbook, so I won't be using either much for now. When school starts in the fall I'll probably play with it some more.

Except it sucks. It is slow and it is unintuitive and I hate using it. I use Writely on linux instead of OO.org.

Asher, before you criticize OpenOffice, consider the fact that really, most users only need the basic functionality of Word/Excel/PowerPoint, and OpenOffice really does handle that. I myself believe it to still be lacking in certain areas, but it certainly performs all the basic functions and some of the more advanced ones just as well. But no, once Google does something, that immediately threatens MS more just because it's Google.

It performs the basic function poorly and unintuitively.

        And Google's services don't require a multi-hundred-MB download.

OO.org usually breaks whenever I import .docs with Excel tables or charts in them.

Do that many people use Power Point, outside of business presentations? I don't think so.

                Teachers? That might be, yes.

I'm playing around with it now. Not a whole lot to it. Its really stripped down. Which is fine I guess, I don't use the vast majority of Excel functions. The sharing feature is nice, and the ability to allow others to edit it. But beyond that... meh nothing special about it.

I doubt Microsoft has any reason to feel threatened by it.

It's used all the time in an education environment (students and teachers both).

The only people who don't use it are home users, and I'm not sure what the point is.
