Just as in Afghanistan, people would prefer a single stable dictatorship over anarchy. At least its a form of peace.
Oh, and I love all the religious bigotry in the thread, Its precious.

"it is dangerous to be right when the government is wrong" Voltaire

Bah, you just had to go and impose reality on my fake nostalgia, didn't you? To be fair though, we supported the Taleban and equally luvable types of people in South America.
If by we you mean the U.S. then you are wrong. The Clinton administration did give the Taliban some anti-narcotic aid for a short time while they were trying to improve relations, but that turned out to be a losing proposition and was discontinued in short order. The Taliban are creatures of Pakistan's ISI, and were formed well after the Soviets (and hence the Americans) decamped Afghanistan.

Just ( orthodox ) Muslims being ( orthodox ) Muslims . Expect al-Queda bases to spring up in Somalia soon . Islam acts like a parasite in any culture it enters .
I would like to say this is extremism on your part but there is enough truth there to make it plausible.
Islam most certainly does have fundimentalism built right into it's foundations which is why the Islamic Fundimentalists have such an easy time convincing people to follow their brand of Islam.
Considering that Indians tend to be more prosperous that the natives of the country they emigrate to , I'd disagree . But then , nice troll .
That's because we only import the most well educated ones and we leave the poor peasants at home. It isn't all that amazing that when you take only the best you end up with the best.

When they blew up the Buddhas? That was the first time I started hearing about the Taliban. I heard the Taliban was pretty successful in cutting opium production

I'd disagree a small bit . It would have been extremist if I had said that Muslims are parasites ( not Islam ) . Tell me - what did Arab Islam have as a culture to call its own - almost nothing . So they Islamised the culture of Persia , destroyed the original religion , and spread from there .

Saying that , however , is taboo in this ridiculous climate of political correctness we live in .

But even that small subset is enough to deflate his troll .

So do Judaism and Hinduism, at least as far as violent conquest and putting the unbelievers to the sword go. Christianity started as a religion of turning the other cheek, and look how that turned out.
The reason the tendency is so strong in Islam today is that we (the West) actively supported it as a foil to the Communists for decades. We are reaping what we have sown.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

I'm sorry. Can you refresh my memory? What is it that is refered to when people say Bombay riots?

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

IIRC the Buddhas were the beginning of the end for the Taliban both here and many places abroad. Their ability to cut opium production was based on their power, which most people didn't want to see enhanced by foreign aid after those outrages.

But he touched it too much!

Yeah... just for kicks one time while debating against this super-conservative super-Christian guy, I asked why we shouldn't just turn the other cheek after 9/11... that thread got real interesting, real fast

Something along the lines of "Muslims set off bombs which kill Hindus , Hindus retaliate" .
But then again , you are another troll , trying to justify the brutality of one religion by ( unsuccessfully ) trying to drag other religions through the mud . What you consistently blind yourself to is that my condemnation is reserved for the theological and legal system that is Islam , not the mass of people that are Muslims . I do not hate Muslims . I do dislike and consider barbaric a system called Islam . The two are totally separate .
