This is what it boils down to me:

Enterprise and Voyager mucked up the universe and the goodwill, but all of it is recoverable once I watch TNG, TOS, or DS9.

Eps 1-3 mucked up the universe and the goodwill, and Eps 4-6 have been mucked around so much by Lucas, as well as being not as good on the umpteenth viewing, that the damage has been done and is non-recoverable.

    Trek wins.

Maybe they should try a system like the Cardassians or Romulans had.

Heck, at least they had secret police! How can you run an empire without one?

Well, the Federation also has a secret police, but Section 31 is a bit more hands-off than the Obsidian Order or the Tal Shiar.

Shhh. Not supposed to speak of Section 31 in the open.

The GE had a secret police. Hell, the leader, Ysanne Isard was the recognized Leader of the Empire for about a year(as most Admirals grabbed thier fleets and formed their own little feifdoms) Until the Rebels took Coruscant from her. Then she ended up with only one planet, as the Moffs were done with her.

And Section 31 was a joke.

Which only showed how rapidly the Empire descended into Warlordism, with Zsinj and the lIke making off with most of the Imperial Starfleet(The defenses for Coruscant were a joke)

What kind of Seceret police chief ios defeated by a squadron of fighters???

Any real secret police would have had those Moffs and Admirals promptly shot in some vast reign of terror.

Sloppy of those imperials, real Sloppy.

Bit a of misnomer. First they got most of the Black Sun crime organization released and then cut them loose on Coruscant.

Turns out the Admirals and what not picked their political officers wiht Care. And it further turns out that there wasn't a whole Hell of a lot the Secret Police could do to a Star Destroyer.

Incidently, Isard expedited the break-up by removing the (in theory) third-in-line 6 months after Endor. And she didn't really fight for Coruscant, instead she left behind a plague that would kill every species on Coruscant except the Humans, so the Rebels had to burn up resources fixing it.

Its a poor show when military leaders get to handpick their political officers. It sort of defeats the purpose of political officers, which is to keep the military in line.
