Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Can't give it up for Pixies, sorry. Although I do think Frank Black is a freaking genius.

I still worship at the altar of The Cure.

Technically, REM and Smashing Pumpkins deserve to be included in consideration here as well.

Fugazi predates indy rock. They are like gods, but calling Fugazi an indy rock band ignores their years of sticking it to the man in the vanguard of the US punk movement.

The Cure and REM can hardly be described as Indie rock though, can they.

Don't forget, they were a major influence for Nirvana, that's not bad in itself.

Their roots are totally indy post-punk. If mainstream acceptance disqualifies a band, then you're locked into a big fish-small pond debate.

I don't really know what "indie" means, but all the bands being mentioned in this thread frankly suck.

When i think of "indie" I think of bands like Neutral Milk Hotel, Silver Mt. Zion, God Speed You Black Emperor, and Deerhoof

                      I wholeheartedly agree.

Great way to prove your point.

                            Yes
"Spirit merges with matter to sanctify the universe. Matter transcends to return to spirit. The interchangeability of matter and spirit means the starlit magic of the outermost life of our universe becomes the soul-light magic of the innermost life of our self." - Dennis Kucinich, candidate for the U. S. presidency

I'm listening to the Pixies 1989 album Doolittle right now. Best Indie music of its time hands down.
