Aren't their assets frozen?

I hope so but I doubt it. Innocent until proven guilty and that means they had five years or so to squirrel away their wealth before the guilty verdict.
I think that, at least, they should be denied chocolate pudding privileges. After all, prison should be tough!
I think that's a bit harsh. I think they should get as much as they like, and maybe a little more than that too.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier
Their assests are frozen, but they had already moved a lot of things before anyone knew about it anyway. The legal battle is taking much of it. They are both appealing the ruling. Many people here in Houston are quite upset. The judge, while giving instructions to the jury, gave clearly wrong instructions to the jury. It would give them at least a couple more years of freedom.

How long will this serve as a discouragement for others?

Now now, don't let ideology cloud your sense of perspective. These were nonviolent crimes. They attacked the foundations of Western market economy and civic order in the most vile manner though, and hence should be, within reason, punished harshly.

I can't wait to see what they get. I have a client who got 12 years in the fed for securities fraud, 1 year per guilty count. -I represent my guy on an unrelated state securities fraud case where his exposure is somwhere around 150 years (though I expect to win the jury trial)

What do you mean?
I wasn't suggesting that they should be punished harshly, not at all. Rather, the sentence is about repaying in whatever small ways they could for the economic damages they caused.

They dont have that much money, but as Neitzche said "Any dept can be repaid through the pain of its agent" and this is adsactly what they need several hundred million dollars worth of pain.

I bet they get pardoned on Bush's last day in office.

Why? Have they given Bush as much money as Clinton got? They didn't get enough of a return on their investment if they did.

BTW: It is because of abuses like this (and Clinton's pardon of scumbag Rich), that I support a Constitutional Amendment to require Senatorial "advise and consent" before the President can pardon anyone.
Enron just gave to whoever is in power and could help. They gave even more money to Democratic congresspeople around Houston.
