That said, eating out in Norwich is generally expensive as a rule. I've managed to get cheaper and nicer food in London.

Though next time you're in Norwich, you could always treat this poor student to something nicer than Tesco's sushi
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

This thread has "trip to the emergency room" written all over it.

Norwich is not the middle of nowhere. It's the only reasonably civilised place in nowhere!

It's not the middle of nowhere... It's the backend of nowhere. It's where trains and roads terminate. I can't believe how long it takes to get there sometime. From Loughborough I can get to Brighton in about the same time it takes me to get to Norwich by train. Ely must the coldest damn station in the country as well...

I despair at getting from Norwich to anywhere except London. And that's assuming the direct trains are running.

Even getting back to Suffolk is an undertaking of grave difficultly.

Yeah, it's a funny place, it's a part of the country that you would never have any reason to pass through. I was thinking whilst just doing the pots - if Norfolk disappeared, what would be the negative impact on British society?

Nigiri-zushi (the balls of sushi rice with a piece of fish on top) is quite difficult to make decently at home. Takes lots of practice to be able to shape the rice into a ball that won't fall apart when picked up and the cuts of fish have to be quite nice for asthetic reasons. You're probably better off making some maki-zushi (various ingredients wrapped up with sushi rice in a nori roll) or chirashi-zushi (various ingredients scattered on top of the sushi rice). Easier to make and cheaper, as they use a greater proportion of non-fish ingredients.

Find fresh fish, bone it well, and get lots of wasabi.

Just do not *ever* make any kind of "sushi" from freshwater fish, or even brackish water fish. They are almost without exception loaded with parasites like Diphyllobothrium latum present as nearly invisible little bladder larvae in the flesh of the fish. Cooking easily kills them all but forget all about using them for any kind of sushi.

Unfortunately these sorts of tapeworm larvae are present in ocean catch as well but at least the degree of infestation tends to be much lower than is the case for freshwater fish.

Sushi is the rice, not the raw fish. There are plenty of sushi types that used cooked salt and freshwater fish, as well as non-fish ingredients.
