[q=Vesayen]nintendo will skyrocket back to the top of the console market[/q]

Yeah.. um... no. I know you want to be a Nintendo fanboy but there is no way in Newton's Universe that the Wii will be the top selling console.

Besides, when it comes out, the X360 Premium will be $300. Wii will be a second console for many people, but the top selling one? Don't think so.

Nintendo will (completley) corner the market on parents buying consoles for their children because the tremendously lower price alone makes it more attractive-besides the fact the Wii looks cool.
You're probably right: they'll corner, yet again, the children's market. But that also means they'll never be the king of the mountain. The bulk of the market aren't kids, but males between 15 and 35 years old. Yet, despite Nintendo's (sensible) plan to leave the kindergarden and broaden their customer base, most of the games Nintendo demonstrated at E3 were for kids.

That said, I think the Wiimote has a lot of potential: I just wish they'd put it on the 360 or the PS3 instead

I could be mistaken of course but.....

If the Wii outsells other consoles by a huge margin, which I think could be possible, it will attract more developers.... which means better games will come out amoung the muck....

You are on crack. There can be no other explination.

Why am I on crack? The Wii has new, appealing features. Plus if it is 200 and the nearest competition is 300.... it may attract alot of customers, including those who would not normally buy a console.

Do not underestimate the attractive power of quite underpriced luxury goods.

You are on crack if you think the Wii will be the highest selling console. The GameCube was cheaper than the XBox and PS2... did the 'attractive power of quite underpriced luxury goods' make that console #1?

Give it up, Ves... you are totally sniffing glue here. The Wii, while it has a fun new control scheme, still has less impressive graphics (resembling the older generation consoles than the newer generation), no hard drive capabilities, AFAIK no HDTV support, and a less impressive future game catalog. All you have to do is put a Wii game next to an XBox360 game and say the 360 costs only $100 more and you'll see 90% of the game buying public get the 360. I don't care how novel the new control system is.

Did the x-box have appealing, new features which distinguished it significantly from the x-box and the ps2? The little wand thingy is enough of a gimic to attract the masses.

You mean the GameCube. And no, the "little wand thingy" (also called the Wiimote) is NOT enough of a gimmick (as you pointed out it DOES seem a bit gimmicky) to attract the masses.

Though if you want to put your money with your mouth is, I'm open to a sig or avatar bet. Say, whether Wii is the console with the highest market share on 12/31/2007? That should be enough time for all the consoles of this go around to be established.

Why would I want to make a bet?

You guys should all go check out the presentation of the Wii at E3. There's a reason it was code named "Revolution"

What Nintendo didn't want to do was try to compete with PS3 and X-Box through hardware, because that would make a more expensive box, and Nintendo would surely lose.

Nintendo is counting on the Wii to sell on its Revolutionary aspects, much like the DS with its double touch screen.

Wii's controller is where its at. The controller uses technology to immerse the player more. It has an infrared (?) system that tracks motion. For instance, if you're playing a first-person shooter/swordgame like the new Red Steel, the gun will fire where you point, the sword will slash how you slash. If you're playing the new Mario Tennis, the controller acts as the raquet, moving it when you do. Couple that with the rumble feature as well as a speaker that makes certain sounds, depending on the situation (sword slash, perhaps).

Nintendo thinks this will help reach out to non-gamers who are frightened by complicated controllers, along with releasing games for all kinds of people. They say it will help make the game more intuitive, as games like racing games will put the player in a "virtual" driver's seat. They also hope that the cost and the revolutionary aspects of the game will appeal to veterans.

It will also have an online catelogue where you can download any past NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, Sega Master System, or Turbo Grafx 16 game. (The controller can be turned sideways and made into a "classic" controller for these games.) It will also be backward compatable with both GameCube games and the controller.

                              All said...I cannot WAIT!

Actually from reports on the floor, the sword didn't do that, which was disappointing. The sword would do a preprogrammed slash based on the direction & timing of your movement, but it wasn't "slash how you slash".
