Well, there's that. There's the pork. There's the gerrymandering. Then there's just the fact that individuals have much higher approval ratings than the whole congress together. Ever notice how a lot of Congressional campaigns are run around the idea that the guy is an outsider who's going to sweep in and change everything? People still fall for that

I think he means 11% think that Fox is the most trustworthy source of news. Was a thread about it earlier.

Simple solution: Never vote for an incumbent. Power corrupts. Vote the bastids out! BOCTAOE.

I've done this for 20 years and it has served me well.
I have made the occasional exception, but it's rare. If more people voted this way, we'd have a lot more honest representation.

Eh. Clinton was okay for another four (esp. compared to Dole), and while I did vote for Kerry, I didn't have any illusions that he'd be much better than Dubya. Just bad in a different way. A nice change of pace, you might say.

Bush's actions or lack thereof in Iraq are not pissing off his base, Arrian.

Ned also forgot his inability to veto any pork whatsoever (or for that matter anything) and his pre-emptive attempt to curry favor with the old codgers with his prescription benefit debacle.

                  Yay government spending.

I'm not sure that's true. I agree that his base is less likely to be pissed about Iraq, but that doesn't mean that none of them are.

Wrong. His approval rate on Iraq is even lower than his overall approval rate; so if the base disapproves generally, even more disapprove or Iraq in particular.

That's not surprising. Bush's "base" is actually a coalition, comprised of two groups: neo-conservative foreign-policy hawks and Red state "values" voters. Political analysts, including conservative ones, have been pointing out for years that this is a coalition with a built-in fault line, since the latter group tends to be isolationist on foreign policy. Bush kept the coalition together by promising the war would be quick; now that it's turned into a quagmire, he's losing his isolationist flank -- especially since he's done absolutely nothing else for them in 6 years as president.

Neddie, Bush's base isn't abandoning him . . . yet. It's the people outside his base that supported him previously that he's lost.
