That really isn't effective. I understand getting that pissed off about it, but yelling at him about it isn't very likely to make him change his mind.

He faced the same stuff in the prewar period when we all knew what was going to happen, but not when.
Some girl stood up (behind him btw. she's a bright one) with a really terrible t-shirt saying "No War For Oil" and started yellasking him if the war was for oil etc.

Heckling is playing this game. And it is stupid to play this game with the people who've mastered it.

The enemies of the Bush administration are Fact, Logic, and Accountability. The exchange Che posted is an excellent example. Helen Thomas's recent questioning of the President is an excellent example. Colbert's routine at the dinner is an excellent example.

But heckling? Plays right into the Bush script that his opponents aren't fit to lead.
Actually the Helen Thomas questioning session was pathetic. Stephen Colbert's lampooning falls immediately into the realm of nonserious challenge for comedic value only, despite any truthiness behind the routine.

When and if serious debate ever can be presented then and only then can you make that claim but it has to be presented by better than the likes of Thomas and in a venue/situation meant for that debate. These drive by hecklings do a large disservice to real debate. And if Mr Fun thinks getting a Rumsfeld red in the face and stammering will in anyway cahnge one iota of opinion that likewise is a false premise. Its simply as Che described it a momentary orgasm of leftist gotcha.

I do think many here are correct in that the Bu****es are very successful in presenting the anti-bush crowd as nonserious rabid mouth breathers. My experience here shows that not necessarily to be the case (not to say there aren't a number that fit that bill even here at poly) but I am concerned that the other extreme also had its day. Those who were the thoughtful considered politicians and statesment who were instead paralyzed into inaction either through analysis paralysis, political expediency, or corruption.

That is curious; according to others on here, someone who had worked in the CIA would not know what he is talking about.

Hell, his having been in the CIA doesn't actually mean anything, because the information he confronted Rummy about was in the public record (Rummy's own words from a TV appearance).

But if he hadn't had years of CIA training perhaps he wouldn't have found the information...?

McGovern was quoting from Rumsfeld's March 2003 appearance on ABC's "This Week," during which he said unequivocally that the United States knew where Saddam's WMD were
Anyone who was paying attention knows that Rumsfeld and the others were talking out of their asses back then. This guy bothered to pull an exact quote. You or I could've done that. Not that Rummy's been anywhere near here lately...

To the extent you were simply being sarcastic, meh.

Rumsfeld should be heckled wherever he goes!

He was the President and CEO of Nutrasweet in the late 70's. He is responsible for puttting aspartame in the American diet even though the stuff is known to kill rats and put holes in monkey brains.

There has been nothing showing aspartame is harmful for humans, no matter what fearmongering occurs.
