Are you suggesting a way to improve Bush's reputation indefinitely?

      He's got the Midas touch.
But he touched it too much!

Sure they can. Remember, the US is playing the Soviets in this new version of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The American ships in this case wouldn't turn around, and I would suddenly very much appreciate not living in either China or the US

China couldn't fight a global nuclear war, not by a long shot. I just read in the paper that the official U.S. estimate of China's nuclear capability has been revised from 400 warheads (dating from the Cold War era) down to 200, of which 130 are deployed on land based missiles or bombers, the rest believed to be in storage.

It's still a bit nasty, but just a little. Think about it, "20 minutes past the hour: China runs out of nukes, agrees to recognize Taiwan, says "Very sorry, bring in diplomats. Also, big market for Western fire brigade now in People's Republic! If interested, will be very welcome!""

Well, this has been one of the more interesting threadjacks/drifts as of late.

              What a BS analogy!

Lower Canada voluntarily joined the Canadian federation. Can the same be said about Tibet wrt China?

                  This thread is interesting.

                    Idle speculation.
"And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man." -- JFK Inaugural, 1961
