The translation probably mangles the song's rhythm horribly, but if they find it inspiring, more power to them. "O, puede ver usted, por la luz de la manana temprano..." or some such. That's the best my limited Spanish can do.

Well, for starters, it wouldn't start with "O..." since that's "or" in Spanish...

Anyway, here's what Wikipedia has to say about the Spanish version:
The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

It was also part of Spain, and before that it belonged to native tribes who presumably had never heard of spanish.

Well then, "Ohhhh, puede ver." Whatever. But it looks like the translation doesn't fit the same tune as the English version. I wonder how Bush would feel about the "Black National Anthem" they sang at my elementary school? "Lift every voice and sing," I think it was called. It was a whole different song.

It wasn't the US National Anthem. If you'd like to sing the Anthem, sing the song as it was written in whatever language you like rather than dressing up a different one as the Anthem. It's the sheer laziness that irritates me.

It was a joke? I figured you were just being a snot about Spanish grammar. Huh.

Assuming you're more or less serious, DinoDoc, a literal translation wouldn't fit the rhythm at all, and would probably sound pretty stupid due to idioms. After all the effort of a generally-agreed-upon translation that doesn't butcher the meter, well, I don't know how good it would sound as poetry. They're better off with a more liberal translation that doesn't sound like their version of Engrish.

I love that quote. And people whinning about this should be subject to hot pokers up the ass. Seeing as there is no official language in the US, suck it up.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
                          - John 13:34-35 (NRSV)
