Actually the best thing for me is that it should be fewer hours working in an average week. No more slaving to billable hour or worrying about the state of my practice. I had a chance to be a petroleum geologist where I could have worked for the oil companies. I must way I was tempted by the extra $10k they offered but in the end I didn't want to be a part of that scene and I didn't want to spend 9/10ths of my life traveling to where ever they needed an oil well drilled. Especially since oil is usually found in the ****tiest places on Earth.
Instead I work in the environmental field where I try to figure out ways to clean up the messes other people have made. I find it rewarding, abet less financialy supportative then working in the oil business, to work in the environmental business where I help to improve the quality of life inthe community I live in. I guess I have made the choice to make less money in order to wake up each day and go to a business I feel good about. I don't regret that and, honestly, I still do pretty good.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

The up side is that the stock options should be good. There is now a greater need for good scientists then there are good scientists. That means geologists and petroleum engineers are now making much more then they were making in the 1980's. Right now life is good if you have the required skill set.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

Lawyers in private practice work ridiculous hours, Kid. Thus, even if he works pretty hard at the oil company, he will likely be working less.
I know the attorneys that work here (inside corporate counsel) always say how cushy it is compared to private practice (although it doesn't pay as well).
