  • I think Detroit barely edged out Buffalo. It's close.
Almost like Detroit is paid yearly to take a dive.

The only thing that would have made today sweeter would have been Matt not making the top 10.

      • Yeah, I have NO idea why the Bears picked Hester in the 2nd round. Wasted pick.

The best draft, I think, is Arizona's. Though you have to wonder if they would have been better served taking a defender on the first day.

Jacksonville also had a good draft. Drew, in the 2nd round, has the potential to be a very good RB in this league.

        • I really can't stand how berman would essentially reveal the pick right before its announced. Don't friggin say we are going to hear a familiar name and then boom (meh) its lendale white.

          • I'm not surprised at the comments in this thread. It seems some people aren't aware of the financial constraints of the NFL. People near the beginning of the thread were saying how Houston made a huge mistake by not drafting Reggie Bush instead of the DE Williams... well, it's not so easy to just draft the best talent available when he doesn't fit what your team needs. And you can't simply cut or trade a player because of the hit you will take on the salary cap. It affects your team's ability to sign players for the length of the contract, IIRC. Poor cap management can cripple a team's ability to sign talent and compete in the free agent market.

But ZOMFG it's REGGIE BUSH... an unproven heisman trophy winner who may get injured in his first game a'la K'jana Carter or whatever his name was.

So Houston made the right call, and all you armchair GM's should stick to wetting your pants over combine numbers.

            • They could have traded down, was the point.

He's only gotten better as he finally went to a decent organization and has led the Broncs to 3 straight playoff appearances.
The general consensus is that Plummer isn't the answer. Even this year when he performed the best you can really expect of him he wasn't terribly reliable. I think it's more accurate to say that that the Broncos got to the playoffs 3 years in a row "in spite" of him rather than "because of" him. The main reason for his great success this year was curtailing his responsibilities and focusing more on certain types of offense. You want to be able to trust your QB to pull through, not keep him boxed in for fear of what he might do if you don't.

That said, Plummer could pull through in the next year or two. Cutler won't be starting come late Summer '06. There's plenty of time for Plummer to show he has what it takes. But this does send a clear message as well as acquiring a good insurance policy. Had Plummer been injured last year Denver would have been in BIG trouble...

Well gee, the all knowing Sava has spoken.

He fails to mention that it's just as likely that Williams, an unproven Defensive End, is just as likelyto have all the impact of Brian Bosworth.

But no, that couldn't happen because Sava knows everything.

                  ACK!

                  • It is no secret here that Jeff Fisher and Norm Chow wanted Leinart as their QB choice. Bud Adams supposedly laid down the law on this one and said Vince Young was the guy. Adams did the same thing with McNair btw....so, we'll see how it works out.

It's hard to say that a team went to the playoffs in spite of a Top 10 QB. It's like saying Jacksonville went to the playoffs in spite of Byron Leftwich. The problem is that the Broncs sell Plummer waaaay too short. The Broncos missed the playoffs for two straight years before Plummer came in. It just wasn't a need for the team. Perhaps they could have shored up the horrid pass defense instead.

Leinart would have EASILY fit in Norm Chow's offense. The coaching staff wants to win now and Leinart would have been the best bet for that.

                          • Lions were right not to take Lienert. They've taken offensive players the players the past five years or so, and they need immediate help at LB or DB. I would've like Huff but I'll take Simms who equally fits the bill of being an immediate impact player.

                            • They need immediate help everywhere, Jac. Their needs at LB & DB are no more pressing than their needs at QB. Leinart was the best player available, they need a QB, and a QB will have more to do with the outcome of any given game than a LB or DB.

They blew it, plain and simple.
