Guard is the position where it's easiest to find starters in late rounds. Look at the greatest guard tandem in the league. Will Shields was third round, Brian Waters was undrafted.

Here's an article on how players shape out relative to round and position.

Eh, I'm not pissed off, but if you were going to reach for someone, couldn't it at least have been the Auburn guy? Ah well.

Giants trade down, Chicago trades out. Interesting...

I think Chicago's lining up for the run on TE in the second round.

SWEET! The Colts select Joseph Addai!

I like him even more than Maroney. He's the worst pure runner of the backs selected so far, but he's smart, and he's great at picking up the blitz, and a good catcher. He's got all the auxiliary skills necessary to function in the Colts offense.

Colts did well, NE stole a top WR to replace Givens.

Bears (finally) take an obscure safety from Abilene Christian. He's supposed to be a hotshot return specialist on both punts and kickoffs. If that pans out, it's an area where they could use some help.

But I sure would have preferred getting that WR from FSU.

WTF are the Packers doing? They trade their pick to NE and lose out on the WR, then turn around and trade Javon Walker to Denver... ???????

I should also point out that the Bears now lead the NFL in Mannings... (Take THAT, Peyton and Eli!)

                    • Did anyone see the thing on ESPN about all the adjustments Young has to make at the NFL, using film to show exactly what they are saying? Ouch... I agree with them. Young needs time... but the Titans are (idiotically, IMO) pushing McNair out. Maybe they feel they can start Volek and have Young be mentored like McNair was (he didn't play until his 3rd season, IIRC). If Tennessee pushes Young into the starting role this year, it will NOT be good.

That said, the Cardinals got the STEAL of the draft. Leinart is basically ready now to start in the NFL, and he probably will midway through the year, taking over for Kurt Warner (who can help teach Leinart a few things). Can you imagine next year in Arizona? Leinart behind center, handing off the Edge, throwing to Boldin and Fitzgerald? Denny Green must have been creaming his shorts!

Oh, and agreed on Buffalo and Detroit being utter morons... especially Buffalo who on BOTH of their 1st round picks decided to go for players who they could have gotten half a round later. Oy

And I'm disappointed in my Falcons. Yes, CB was a need and Jimmy Williams was a good choice in the early 2nd round, but NOT when Winston Justice is sitting there and you just lost your left tackle to FA! Unless you have Brad Hopkins locked up or something, you take the OT! Then again, Rich McKay does have something of a reputation for ignoring the offense in favor of the defense (Tampa).

                      • Btw, Tennessee took Young at QB and new LenDale White at RB (though Chris Brown has been pretty good, so puzzling). Are they just going to take players who have been on the national championship team?

                        • They need to leave him the Hell alone.
He does have different throwing motion and foot positioning, but he gets it done.

They finally take LenDale. Tennesse has strange draft of their own. Good one, but weird.

Brown repeatedly misses games, and when he does play, he rushes for less than four yards a carry and fumbles frequently.

I've been happy to have Brown in my Colts' division for the past few years.

Yeah... in college. Different beast in the NFL... and it could get him killed in the pros.

In his first full year he ran for 4.8 yards per carry. Not his fault the entire team fell apart last year.

He's also had some minor injury issues that have slowed him up. Not to mention that's he bad in goal-line situations, while LenDale has scored more than a few points. It has the potential to be a good combo...
