A flash drive probably appears as the /dev/sda1 device. So try doing
mkdir flashmount
mount /dev/sda1 flashmount
Also, because of a bug in at least some linux versions, you have to ensure that any changes you make to the flash file system is written out to disk before you remove it. This is done by writing
sync
or alternatively
umount flashmount

This is what I did. But the boot is sda1 actually on the machine I was on. Then I had the mix up of mount != copy.Originally posted by Thue

On the machine I was on, sdc1 should be used, not sda1 (no clue why).
