With what you referred to as "German" you probably meant "Germanisch", or "Germanic" in English. The proper translation for "German" is (modern-day) "Deutsch".
I meant somewhat in between. I meant "central European Germanic".

Okay, that's it . My proposal is to give everything east of the IJssel to Germay and everything south of the Rhine to Belgium, so we are left with a nice, small country. So we won't have to listen to funny accents any more and it saves us a lot of tax-payers' money too.

Hollish, sounds like a language invented on Red Dwarf.

We'd be happy to take it. You keep Rotterdam though.

Too late there mate, we can do all the smoking we want already (though not in public, I think. Very confusing law).

Hmm, let us first get rid of the south(*), we'll talk after that (especially if it comes with a few decent football players).

                    * there's an outside chance this might actually happen in the next few years.

With the current state of the nation I think the people south of the Rhine and east of the IJssel would be getting the better part of that deal, Hueij...

I didn't read the thread aside from the OP, so apologies if anyone has mentioned it, but it should be called Hollandaise, so it matches the delectable sauce.

That reminds me of a cartoon in an Italian football magazine (Guerrin Sportivo), where two guys were discussing Bossi's idea of an independent Padania and one said: "I'm all for it. That means 8 clubs in Champions League, 6 in UEFA Cup..."

Whats the meaning of the Nether part anyway? Its like the Netherregion of Europe or something. Course the Holes from Holland seem to make more sense now that I think about it, what with the Holes being a significant part of the Netherregion.

"Netherlands" is a translation of "Nederland", which is derived from "neder landen", meaning "low lands". So "Netherlands" is actually just a synonym of "Low Lands".
