Besides, the saying dates from a lot earlier.
Grey Cups mean nothing. They're like PeeWee Awards. CFL is retarded.

As for Stanley Cups -- sure. Let's count Stanley Cups in the last 15 years.

Edmonton should be re-named "City of Has-Beens".

Montreal doesn't make any claim to the term "city of champions".

We just let our hockey history speak for itself.

Wings won't win the cup. And even if they did, NHL+NBA championship means, well, meh. What the Patriots + Red Sox winning in 04 meant more.

Oh, and Habs have a stanley cup in the past 15 years. How many does Calgary have?

          Sorry, Asher.

I think half the reason we put up the signs is to piss off Calgarians. It seems to work.

I'm not advocating Calgary call itself the "City of Champions" -- only a city with a massive inferiority complex like Edmonton does that.

Plus we had the All Star game and Superbowl in Motown this year too, if that counts for anything.

The Tigers have two big problems right now. And neither of them are the White Sox, the Indians, or the Twins.

They are the Red Wings and the Pistons.

I could very well be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure the Tigers haven't been above .500 this late (!) in the season for well over a decade. Yet, my sense from reading the Detroit papers online is that no one gives a **** because of the Pistons and Wings. (Again, I could be wrong, no longer living in the area.)

Granted, the season is only 1/8 of the way done, not nearly enough time to say that this is a contender, etc. But it is probably enough time to suggest that this is likely the best Tigers team since the halcyon days of Cecil Fielder and Mickey Tettleton in the early '90s.

I thought they started pretty good last year too, and then tanked.

They started 4-0, then tanked in a hurry. I don't think they got back above .500 after that.

Some positively alarming facts about the Tigers:

They are now 10-2 on the road. What the ****?!

They are doing it with pitching. They lead the AL in ERA, WHIP, opponents' BAA, and opponents' OPS. Seriously, what the ****ing ****?!?!
