How silly is Iran's claim to an army of 50,000+ suicide bombers?

But as has been said, most of Iran's military is in fact defacto suicide types anyways in case of war with the West.

I don't get the whole suicide bomber thing, obviously Allah would want you to fight as much as possible. Basically all you are telling God is that your lazy and can't be bothered to prosecute a campaign. What good are you doing God and your fellow muslims on the ground screwing revirginified virgins all day long?
They're just doing what Hitler did - exaggerate your strength when you have nothing (they just announced they have mutliple warheads missiles ) and play down your intentions when you're ready to strike. According to this they don't have sh!t for us to be afraid of.

As far as the Allah thing goes, I don't think the suicide bombing business is too coherent with Islam.

I gather there is some ambiguity over the translation - it's possible that instead of virgins they actually are supposed to get 72 raisins.

This rhetoric reminds me of the legendary Iraqi Information Minister.

"The Americans in their flying machines are being massacred against the walls of Teheran. Also, we will soon have supersonic self-propelling suicide bombers ready.. There goes one now! Did you see him?"

Didn't they tell something of the most modern highspeed torpedoes they have recently in Iran? Those with rocket engines, and supercavitation (not that I have an idea about it ) and stuff, like the one developed by the Russians?

Next week they'll tell they have Super Star Destroyers

Yes, they claimed to have supercavitating torpedos. I don't think anyone in the know believes them.

                  from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercavitation

Supercavitation is the use of cavitation effects to create a large bubble of gas inside a liquid, allowing an object to travel at great speed through the liquid by being wholly enveloped by the bubble. The cavity (i.e., the bubble) reduces the drag on the object and precisely this makes supercavitation an attractive technology: drag is normally about 1,000 times greater in water than in air.

I bet you won't be laughing that hard, when one of those super-cavitating torpedos blows up a carrier in the gulf. (In time of war.)

Though, I think those things are hard to guide...

Nobody ever bothers to dig up any info on Iran's military...

As I understood the idea they're unguided since the very high speed should make it impossible for another ship/sub to react quickly enough to escape. But I could be wrong.....

Heaven has Revirgination Technology. It opens up on the tech tree after you land on Alpha Centauri.

I heard that muslim clerics are aware of the shortage, and are pressing for the announcement that each would be suicide bomber is responsible to take with him what ever number of virgin girls he hopes to meet in heaven.

Lucky for them, western society has them beat, as you will have trouble meeting anywhere close to 70 female virgins in ANY western country, even in a 20 meter radius.

Iran-Iraq war is very instructive with regards to what Iran's leadership is ready to do. There were not only human waves used there, but also human waves of children used to clear minefields. This was supposedly witnessed by an american journalist. Iranians told him that they do it "to demoralize the cowardly Iraqi dogs".

But what the leadership is ready to do and what it is able to do are different things. One thing to note is that population of Teheran started to protest against the war near its end. By the time Iran was exhausted and entered into peace talks, it had sustained casaulties per capita at about half the level European countries did in WW I. Which goes ways to show you that even a religious (we fight for God and until death, blah blah) state can't squeeze more fighting from the population than its situation allows.
