Razor gags aside, the pyramids in Egypts weren't built with slaves, though - they now reckon there was a team of well-fed professionals on the case. Not sure about the ones in the Americas though, labour laws were a bit more lax - with all the sacrifices and so on.

You should visit my home town at some point. Lots of mysteries there.

Yeah, or as in the newly-to-be-created Civ2 scenario on the rise of Brandenburg-Prussia. Any takers?

                  Archaeologists aren't real academics?

I have a lot of former professors who would disagree.

But the excavator of that mound is an amateur freak that believes in fairy tales! He's not even a licensed professional

Couldn't the same thing have been said about the guy who uncovered Troy?

                            Offcourse.

And he dug right through it

Schliemann can be somewhat excused though, since at his time there was no established archaeology to begin with.

You're talking about a century ago. Things have changed by now you know

Good methodical excavation was pretty exceptional at the beginning of the 20th century (notable exceptions are Petrie etc.). Schliemann didn't know better

Nothing special about a pyramid, really. It's quite a common shape for a solid (3D geometric figure) and the ancients were very likely to know about it.
