I would reiterate the fact that oil companies are masking their costs, as evidenced by the 400m retirement package and EVERYONE getting raises. Like I said, my dad got a 33% raise. And this is after getting a raise last year.

Not necessarily (the illegal part). If neither company is in a market-leading position, or if the market is too small, "predatory pricing" laws aren't enforced all that often. For example, the local Dojos (martial art school) here in Knoxville are engaged in a vicious price war which will drive out some of them. Nobody is going to concern themselves with this, however, even though they are doing just what you described.
Though a price war can be different than preditory pricing. Realistically, it is very thin line and depends on the mood of the prosecutor.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Day-um. A 50% raise. I was ok with my 6.25% raise. Well done, John. I bet you work harder than I do, though

johnT, you getting a raise is not the same as everyone getting a raise"Mal nommer les choses, c'est accroître le malheur du monde" - Camus (thanks Davout)

But sure, the existence of a couple of platforms makes your point.
Just like the fact that the price of oil is 5% different across the Atlantic makes your point.

If prices for something doubled in 4 years, don't you think consumers would kick up a fuss? No, they'd just bend over and take it"Mal nommer les choses, c'est accroître le malheur du monde" - Camus (thanks Davout)

Are you asserting that everyone at your Dad's company got a 33% raise? Or just a raise, period? After all, most companies give everybody a raise each year, it's just that they're typically smaller than 33% (they have to be).
