    • I'm pretty sure you asked that before. It's just reflection in syrup that looks like a quarter because the image was resized.

          • I'm glad to see that the oil companies' record profits are not part of a price-fixing conspiracy but rather because the cost of their supplies of crude oil went up.

              • Man, coming back to this thread from last night has been great . Kaak is becoming the new Fez... beat down like a rented mule, but still trying to go on!

Are you trying to take the title of bagdad bob from KH??:

                  • This is great as well... the standard Kaak response being 'no one has deflected my point, so I win' .

I'd say KH, snoopy, and JohnT have adequately dealt with your 'point' against Exxon Mobil and the conceptions of price gouging.

                    • the point i defended, which has yet to be even remotely refuted, is that Oil companies control oil production from start to finish, therefore, oil prices do nothing but pad the pockets of said oil companies and those they do business with. Production costs vary little.

IE- Record profits. Find me something verifiable that refutes that in this thread.

Refuted by JohnT (at least as pertains to Exxon).

                        • He said that they buy their oil. With nothing to back it up. When KH had already posted a chart showing that they were producing close to a BILLION barrels a year IN 1998. I responded to his post with this, and he had nothing else to say about it.

                          • Read Exxon/Mobil's Quarterly Report. While revenues hit $100 billion, they listed $52 billion as the cost of purchasing oil.

                            • I just read the entire annual report...The purchasing figures were what similar to what you said, but they didn't just include oil. It said *oil and products*....What products means, I have no idea. And it isn't all that far fetched that they are "buying" oil from their own subsidiaries. I'll call on monday to find out what "products" are, and how much oil they actually purchase...

Regardless. The fact remains that they do control every aspect of the production of roughly 1 billion barrels of oil a year.

                              • Aside from what they have to pay the countries to be there .

And since you are talking about links... how about one saying it costs only 40 something cents per gallon for Exxon to drill the oil, transport the oil, refine the oil, then send the oil to stations?

Btw, are you still thinking that Exxon dictates the price of crude to OPEC?
