I suppose I should have been pissed off when customs kept me onboard my ship for three hours when I came home from my last deployment as they searched for contraband (they didn't find any).

This is exactly what should have happened, suspicious circumstances discovered, quickly and efficiently investigated and dismissed
Except, Patroklos, that's precisely what didn't happen. Once they vetted him as an actual soldier that first time, he shouldn't have been entered into the system.

Agreed, I however, don't find this to be some OH MY GOD THE NAZIS PAPERS PAPERS PAPERS thing the press thinks, who are willfully sensationalizing this by shamelessly apealing to emotion.

I am happy that this mistake, which is in fact an error on the safe side, was quickly and effectively solved.

I have spent more time trying to clear up a wrongully denied credit card purchase than this.

Including other information about the name on the list (physical description, place of origin, etc) and automatically checking against the individual who has presented himself before an alert is triggered. If the only information you have is that somebody has used the alias "J Smith" then you really have to wonder if there's sufficient value to hassle every J Smith who tries to get on an airplane. If there's 350 000 of these J Smiths on your list then I can guarantee that there is not sufficient value to be triggering multiple alerts for all of them. If, on the other hand, you hear that somebody is going to be travelling under a passport bearing the name of J Smith, then you're getting closer, and might have to stop every J Smith. But the number of such solid "name only" pieces of intelligence is going to be much lower. Right now, it seems as though they put any name they hear on the list, with very little regard to precision targetting of real threats. We can easily do better than that.

Of course, you can always claim that we need all 350 000 of those names, but I don't think it's proving to be anything other than a large waste of resources to act on a list that size.

MrFun, veterans served the United States. Therefore, they must hew to the party line. When they disagree, they're being traitorous to the body, the corpus of the state. Let's put it another way.

Veterans are those who serve in the armed forces, defending the country, somewhat like an immune system. However, every now and then, an immune cell decides to become traitorous, and start attacking its own body--much like what this whining, irritating bastard of an ex-troop is doing.

If we let this happen, and don't bury it, then more and more immune cells will turn tail; before long, America will be suffering from an autoimmune disorder.

And unless you hate America, you don't want that to happen.

Human immune system is far more competent, efficient, and ruthless than the US military in performing its tasks.
