Nope. The minute Senator Ted Kennedy was prevented from flying as his name was on the No Fly list, the list was so endeared amongst us Americans that we shall never let it go.

            Yeah, I read that....

Still sounds like *****in to me. Now instead of just pounding your fist saying "This is an outrage!" What can/should be done to improve the situation.

Who's pounding his fist and screaming?

              The system needs:

              a) safeguards that prevent the triggering of an alert based on a mistaken identity caused purely by a similar or identical name

              b) thorough review of every new name added to the list

              c) periodic review of every name on the list, and an active effort to discard names which are now judged to be non-threats

b and c should be accomplished by a review body separate from those who submit names to the list (and preferably from a completely different agency) with access to the intelligence which brought the name forward in the first place. 350000 names is far too many, especially when you factor in variants close enough to trigger an alert. A list of that scope seems to me to be makework of the worst kind.

Like I said, if you don't have some sort of strict review then what happens is bloat. Putting more names on the list becomes more important than maintaining the quality of the leads contained therein. Which leads to the problem of the boy who cried wolf.

Yep, if the airport personel gets used to people being on the list for all the wrong reasons, why should they think anything else when the real terrorist turns up?

Incidentally, I have absolutely no problem being on KH's ignore list.

As I have said before, I have no right to consistently bash his strawmen to pieces, deflating his ego and sending him into ranting tirades resulting in the fracture of his internet God complex.

                          There we go... some progress.
What safegaurds what you implement? This isn't Star Trek where you can magically say "we will reverse the polarity of the list to give it a terrorist magnetism".

The other two are good measures... but I would think that it is being done to some degree already.

Anyway... I'm sure we will find some time to discuss these kinds of fun issues at Apolycon '06 (that is unless I'm delayed because I post here )!

The best thing is, if Someone quotes you, it doesn't ignore the quote, so he may accidently read this post anyway.
