My guess is, Apoc, that Aviation gets the chicks and easy job, pays well and looks good, while others have to work for it .

I'd go to aviation, but this is you, follow your heart. That's the only advice I'll give you. You know what it's like, you set in and you find out you don't like it, you can't get out, it sucks. Find something you'd be most into. Makes the time fly better plus you can enjoy it.

I mean, I ended up in the place I liked in the army, but for some time I was not in that place. What makes the difference is that what matters is the people you serve with, so if you get good guys rolling with you, you know it'll be fun. If not, then it sucks no matter where you are. This be the truth.

Aviation isn't necessarily easy and I wouldn't say it gets the chicks either. I don't really have that problem at the moment anyway.

Actually, Iraq had South African artillary pieces that would out range our own. Just turned out they hadn't a clue as to how to use them.

They probably weren't in existence any more by the time US forces got within range of them either.

In Gulf I, the US used highly mobile units to draw Iraqi artillery fire at night, which waiting aircraft promptly saw and took care of.

The Iraqis learned quickly the worst thing they could do was actually fire their pieces.

True. OTOH, ever read Arabs at War? Those clowns could never fire in an expeditious manner unless they had pre-plotted the coordinates...which they rarely did.

Pat, right, we had some examples of how NOT to do things, most of them were from guess who? Yes, from that region. I mean, you would lose your tanks easily and artillery by exposing yourself, and not putting any effort to movement and mobility, intelligence and air defense to fight those covers or having your own fighters do the same. Or pay attention to the dangers of night vision, or just simply not smoke during the night. Lots of tanks were taken out by folks coming out to smoke a cigarette when it was dark, no kidding.

Can't remember what war, many were taken out for the same reason, came out for a smoke when it was dark because of ramadan or something.. I mean enough is enough, right? Like you get out at night, and lay on the tank and watch the night sky.. thanks for targetting your own tank doofos.. making it easy.

No tries to really outmaneuver, or make fake targets.. just nothing. Like sitting ducks all the time in all wars. Hey, how did IDF destroy the stuff? By flying there and bombing. You'd think they'd learn at some point, yes?

I'm a bit color blind so it is a big strike against me for aviation already and I don't want to go through the crap to get everything.
