So you still consider 40 bucks just some extra cash? How is your money managment, or do you live your salary in the first week, inherited a lot of money, don't care to accumulate any savings for investing or what's up?
In da butt.

I didn't even know that there were other ways to say it. It's good to be the biggest and be able to be ignorant of others and have to have them have their noses rubbed in what we do.

400$ rent
200$ food
60$ phone
30$ cable+internet
50$ gas+electric
140$ car insurance
40$ gas (at US prices)
10$ water tax
~1000$ a month on necessities
leaves ~400$ a month to spend on whatever the **** I want
40 for gas? So you drive less thank a tank in month? Well that saves a good deal of money.
so 400 a month for stuff. This would include extra things that you can't predict plus possible surges in other costs every now and then. So basically, there's no future, I mean you live and can have fun, but the future, where's the money?

I drive just over a tank a month. I'm 5-6 miles from my workplace. Add in trips further out from the city, and you get a monthly mileage of ~325 miles.

The money is when I get my PhD and instantly more than double my current salary. Then after two years of that when I get to bump it up another 60%

you can't afford it. I won't show it to you for free. That would be stupid. I can live with the fact that you are left guessing that it's not true.

Petrol should be taxed to the hilt, much like it is. The vast majority of people are only going to practice fuel economy when they have to deal with the consequences immediately and personally, in a place that it hurts - their wallet. People can choose to not consume petrol, or certainly not consume petrol in the thoughtless manner they do now, there just has to be a suitable incentive.
That's certainly a valid viewpoint, but my post wasn't necessarily criticizing gas taxes. I don't agree with you, but my point was, let's not criticize oil companies for turning a profit on gasoline, when the government is doing the same thing. The only difference is, the oil companies are the ones actually supplying the oil, so they deserve to make money on it.
As for government needing money to maintain roads and the environment, I'm not sure why we need an extra gas tax to do so. We could always pull out of Iraq, leaving plenty of money to maintain roads and the environment AND cut taxes again. That isn't gonna happen, but a gas tax certainly isn't necessity to maintain roads and the environment, except from the standpoint of providing a disincentive for driving, but if that's the case, why shouldn't oil companies get to cash in on that too?
Errr...I would have thought that a libertarian would be more in favour of a usage tax to pay for certain services than a graduated income tax to pay for the same services...
