let them kill hostages. then what else to they have to protect them from dying? the sole motivation for taking hostages in any heist situation is to ensure your own protection.

anyone that takes hostages and sees that the police, navy, whatever, doesnt give a ****, will either kill the hostages and be left without defense, or let the hostages go and be left without defense but a chance not to die.

in the end not negotiating with hostage takers is where i stand. also they need at least one sniper on every boat.

If I was a hostage, I'd hope they wouldn't leave. Once they are off, we are dead.

I'd wish they'd block the way for a stand still. We'll see what happens. Try to negotiate. And if they kill us, blow the thing to the air and kill them all.

Basically, I see my best chances with Navy blocking the way and ready to fight. THere's always the fighting chance, small or big, it's there. I'd rather go down fists flying than executed in some stupid shore.

A google search just led me to EINNews.com. You have to register to get the full stories (and I don't want to right now) but two headlines on the Somali news forum stated (1) the Somalis denied they were pirates and (2) the South Koreans were trying to contact their crew.

So are these bastards going to keep them just in case the US or some other navy starts sending in warships, or marine escort crews to protect ships in international waters? If their pirates start encountering real resistance will they threraten to execute their hostages?

OTOH maybe they're hoping that we'll send in the marines to rescue the crew. They may be itching to set up an ambush, anticipating a replay of the Mogadishu fiasco.

They've already threatened to execute anyone captured if their "militia patrol boats" are harassed during their "anti-pirate patrols."

I'd like any boots on the ground to be South Korean. They have some nasty-@ss fighters over there. During the Vietnam War, ROK troops kicked VC butt big time.

This is a good point, it's kinda like when someone threatens you once you get in their car your odds of dying just went up about 10 times.

Yeah. The Somolis complained that we were firing on the militia ships which were patrolling for pirates. They threatened to hold innocent seamen hostage and execute them if our attacks on their militia ships didn't cease.

Sounds like someone needs to remind the Somalis of the casualty ratio of US soldiers vs. "skinnys" last time the US sent troops in.
